Pauline Wangin

Pauline Minmila Wangin was born in Indulkana on the APY Lands in the far northwest of South 
Australia and grew up in the neighbouring community of Mimili. She has been closely connected to Mimili Maku Arts since its beginnings, working for many years as a dedicated artworker before increasingly focusing on her own painting practice. In recent years, Pauline’s art practice has grown significantly in confidence, scale and recognition. 

Her paintings convey a deep appreciation for the landscape and the ancestral stories that have shaped it, often characterised by elaborate detail and meandering pathways that echo the intricate network of waterways on Country. Her work reflects both cultural continuity and a strong personal voice grounded in lived knowledge of place. Pauline often travels on bush trips with her family to significant sites, including Parawalpi and Atjuta. 

She enjoys teaching and sharing stories passed down to her by her ancestors, particularly those relating to the care of rockholes and water sources. In 2024, Pauline became part of the Atutja Collaborative alongside her daughter Emma Singer and her older sister Betty Campbell, creating intricate collaborative paintings that depict shared family storylines and intergenerational knowledge. Alongside her artistic practice, Pauline is an active cultural leader within her community. When she is not painting, Pauline enjoys singing, playing keyboard, and spending time on Country with her family.
