Betty Mula

Betty Mula is a Pitjantjatjara artist known for her colourful paintings that celebrate the 
beauty of Country. Born in Imanpa and raised among Pitjantjatjara, Luritja, Warlpiri, and 
Yankunytjatjara families, Betty later moved to Mimili, where she raised her children and 
deepened her connection to the land. 

She is widely respected for her bush knowledge — from gathering bushfoods and 
finding tinka (goanna), to making irmangka-irmangka (traditional healing balm) and reading 
the signs of punu (trees), and seasons. This deep, daily relationship with Country informs 
her unique visual language. 

Betty’s paintings are bright, expressive, and bursting with joy. Her work reflects the way she 
moves through the world: with curiosity, clarity, and a special attention to detail that others 
might miss. Since beginning to exhibit in 2023, her bold style and irrepressible spirit have 
captured audiences nationally and internationally, marking her as one of the most exciting 
new voices from the APY Lands.
